Neighborhood Spotlight: Society Hill, Philadelphia

Settled in the early 1680s, Society Hill is one of the oldest residential neighborhoods in Philadelphia, and the entire United States. The neighborhood was named from the Free Society of Traders, a group of elite merchants, landowners and associates of founder William Penn, to whom were granted special privileges in exchange for developing the new colony’s economy.
The vibrant arts scene and a plethora of boutique shops and trendy, high design restaurants lend a modern feel to the neighborhood’s old-world charm. Visitors can wander narrow, brick-lined streets by day, and after sundown dine lavishly, burning the midnight oil at bars and clubs. The “First Friday” of each month, dozens of galleries and art spaces open their doors to locals and visitors alike for a lively can’t-miss cultural happening. Shop all day at hip boutiques like Vagabond and eat and drink all night at popular spots like Zahav — one will never exhaust what this area has to offer.
Historic buildings and neighborhoods are preserved and refreshed through new eyes over time, and Society Hill is no different. Soon, a long-standing Society Hill hotel will reveal a modern restoration within a neighborhood staple. We're proud to be a part of a new, exciting era for this important district.
Our team is excited to unveil a new project launching in the summer of 2019 in the Society Hill neighborhood. We will be sharing more information and sneak peeks as the project comes to fruition, and look forward to releasing previews of the exciting project in the coming months.
