Introducing the Sawyer & Company-Designed Sea Thermal Suite and Spa Aboard the Celebrity Millenn
We are pleased to unveil the design inspiration behind another eagerly anticipated cruise project – the re-design of the Spas aboard the Celebrity Millennium-class cruise ships. Our team previously worked with Celebrity on Raw on Five, a specialty seafood restaurant aboard the brand new, state of the art Celebrity Edge, and new innovations are on the horizon aboard the Celebrity Revolution, including the expansion of the new SEA Thermal Suite – first introduced on the Celebrity Edge – to offer an ahh-inspiring array of therapeutic spa experiences at sea.
The guiding design ethos of the refurbished spas surround water, nature, and the sea – realized in light, airy spaces that calm and relax the senses. Our team utilized a light, neutral color palette creating a tranquil floating oasis on the open seas, with endless horizon views over the waters outside. Textural elements define the concept of the space as smooth lines juxtapose with natural, raw surfaces – all rendered in neutral beige, taupe, and ecru. A smooth, rounded marble reception desk echoes the shape of water, and the rounded edges repeat throughout washbasins, vases, and within the hot sauna.
We conceptualized the separation within the spa with hanging semi-transparent dividers, allowing light to flow throughout. With mirrors around the periphery, light bounces across the room, resulting in a weightless, buoyant feeling. Light-washed wooden floors and walls lend an emphatically seaside ambiance to the luxurious space, and subtle metallic details bring a touch of glamour to an indulgent experience amid the fresh interiors.
Virtually every inch of the ships will be touched during the refurbishments – including the Spa. As with so many of the changes, the transformation of the spa on the Millennium-class ships will be among the most dramatic, with a complete overhaul that includes the entire layout, and several of the features and amenities of the SEA Thermal Suite that will be on board the Celebrity Edge.
